HDFC Bank lends up to ₹50 lakh from 9.99% p.a. over terms as long as 84 months. Its most useful term is the processing fee: capped at ₹6,500 plus GST rather than charged as a percentage, which on a large ticket is a fraction of what a 2% fee would cost. On a ₹40 lakh loan that cap saves roughly ₹73,500.

Underwriting favours stable employment — two years of total experience with at least one at the current employer, and net monthly income from ₹25,000. Part-prepayment of up to 25% of the principal per financial year is allowed once twelve EMIs are behind you, and the loan carries insurance cover of ₹8 lakh for accidental death with ₹1 lakh for critical illness.

Early instalments are mostly interest. The principal only starts falling quickly in the closing years, which is why prepaying early saves so much more than prepaying late.

Why people pick HDFC

A flat fee, not a percentage

The ₹6,500 cap is the single strongest reason to look at HDFC for a large loan. Against a 2% fee, the saving grows with every rupee borrowed.

Insurance bundled in

Cover of ₹8 lakh against accidental death and ₹1 lakh for critical illness rides along with the loan, so an unpaid balance does not fall on the family.

Part-prepay a quarter each year

Up to 25% of principal per financial year after the first twelve EMIs, which shortens the term without triggering a full foreclosure charge.

Pre-approved for existing customers

Salary-account holders often see a sanctioned limit inside net banking with disbursal in minutes and no fresh documents.

Fees and charges

What the loan costs beyond the interest

Processing and foreclosure charges routinely outweigh a small difference in rate. Read these against the rate table above.
